The second movement of this suite concentrates on my paternal grandparents, Albert and Gladys Cuss. My grandfather was a farmer, solo cornet player and conductor of the local brass band while my grandmother was a church organist so no less inspirational or colourful than my other grandparents yet providing me with a totally different perspective and palate.
Summers spent in the countryside playing cowboys and Indians lead me to give this movement much more of a Copland feel rather than the Delius-like pastoral feeling of the first movement. |
